CJ Corona,
Conviction
P-Noy's Statement on the Senate's conviction of Chief Justice Renato Corona, 30 May 2012
photo from TWITPIC |
1. Senator Angara: .."given his experience in public law, the willful and deliberate omission of depends is a culpable violation of the constitution..."
2. Senator Arroyo: .."what started in the House of Representative is not an impeachment..."
3. Senator A. Cayetano: ..."all public officials should have the same standard of transparency and accountability..."
4. Senator P. Cayetano: ..."to follow a contrary view to the Code of Ethics would set a deadly precedent..." , .."Failure to declare $2.4M and P80M is not a minor inaccuracy..."
5. Senator M. Defensor: ..."the burden of proof is in the prosecution. I have adopted the standard of overwhelming preparedness of evidence..." , .."I am insulted by the way your minds run..."
6. Senator Drilon: ..."the question about declaring one's SALN goes into the heart of moral fitness to hold public office.."
7. Senator Escudero: ..."Simple na lang ang kailangang
desisyunan, hindi nga ba kailangan ideklara dahil sa
FCDU law? Hindi ko masasangayunan ang punong
mahistrado, hindi nagbabanggaan ang mga batas.
Kung ayaw magdeklara, huwag tumakbo [for public
office]. Kung naninilbihan sa pamahalaan, dapat
magdeklara..."
8. Senator Estrada: ..."I regret to say that I am not convinced because the Chief Justice is a learned man of law,..."
9. Senator Guingona: ..."he violated the “sanctity of the Constitution..."
10. Senator Honasan: ..."We have not proven that the defendant is corrupt or malicious... What is clear is that he is not longer fit to preside over the highest court of the land...Doubt is the opposite of faith."
11. Senator Lacson: ..."it hard to believe his [Corona]
testimony that he does not understand accounting,”
noting that at a certain point, Corona had nearly $4
million and some P91.4 million in his accounts."
12. Senator Lapid: ..."It was clear for me, Corona violated
the constitution. He himself admitted to the amounts
in his bank accounts,”...“I thank him because I took
my oath with him. Sorry, sorry, but my verdict is
guilty,....”
13. Senator Legarda: ..."if they acquit the Chief Justice, they
tragically lift floodgates on corruption and also lower
bar of public accountability..."
14. Senator Marcos: ..."The framers of the constitution
intended culpable violation of the Constitution to
mean a woeful and intentional violation of the
constitution. Betrayal of public trust meanwhile was
meant to be a catch all phrase to encompass all acts
violative of the oath of office which render the officer
unfit to continue in service,..."
15. Senator Osmeña: ..." it was Corona himself who gave the reasons for his conviction."
16. Senator Pangilinan: ..."the chief magistrate was no longer fit to lead the Supreme Court."
17. Senator Pimentel: ..."Corona’s admission, under oath
that he did not disclose properties on his statement of
assets, liabilities and networth (SALN).", .."not
convinced by Corona’s defense on why he failed to
declare his dollar accounts in his SALN..."
18. Senator Recto: .."mandatory for public officers to submit true declarations of their assets,”
19. Senator Revilla: .."I have heard all the arguments and
considered all the pieces of evidence. I heard directly
from the honorable chief justice himself. Napakahirap
man, alang-alang sa pagkakaisa at paghilom ng ating
bayan,.....”
taongbayan. Nadinig nila ang dalawang panig. Tulad
namin, hindi lahat sila abogado pero ang
kapangyarihan ng demokrasya ay nasa kanilang
kamay,”...
21. Senator Trillanes: ..."Transparency and accountability as principles in governance take precedence over legal technicalities,”
22. Senator Villar: ..."pero naniniwala ako na dapat pantay-pantay ang implementasyon ng batas kaya ako ay bumoto ng guilty."
23. Senator Enrile: .."Through all my 88 yrs, I too have been judged often unfairly & harshly, we have recourse to the judgement of history & God"
It’s 20-3 !
The verdict – GUILTY
Flash back from GMA NEWS
The alleged ill-gotten wealth of Chief Justice Renato Corona during his 10-year tenure as a Supreme Court justice is “irrelevant” in the Senate impeachment trial, one of his lawyers said Monday.
Lawyer Eduardo delos Angeles explained in his opening statement at the start of the trial that the prosecutors were creating “the impression that he [Corona] accumulated ill-gotten wealth,” noting that the impeachment bid should not focus on Corona’s properties as he is accused of graft and corruption and not of acquiring ill-gotten wealth.
Delos Angeles clarified that Corona only owns five real properties, adding that “the pictures of Bellagio [condominium] and the bloated list of titles are therefore irrelevant to this trial.”
The House prosecutors had earlier presented 45 land titles of properties that allegedly belonged to Corona. The titles were acquired from the Land Registration Administration.
The House of Representatives impeached Corona on the following grounds:
- partiality and subservience in cases involving the Arroyo administration;
- failure to disclose to the public his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN);
- issuance of flip-flopping decisions in final and executory cases;
- issuance of the “status quo ante” order against the House of Representatives in the case concerning the impeachment of Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez;
- decision in favor of gerrymandering in the cases involving 16 newly-created cities, and the promotion of Dinagat Island into a province;
- mproper creation of the SC ethics committee
- granting temporary restraining order in favor of former President Arroyo; and
- failure and refusal to account for the Judicial Development Fund (JDF) and special allowance for the judiciary collections.
“The Supreme Court and the Chief Justice cannot be considered the enemies of the people,” Delos Angeles said, adding that “this impeachment sends a chilling threat to the Supreme Court, to withhold the exercise of it judicial power and just let the President have his way.” — Rouchelle Dinglasan/KBK, GMA News
NOW YOU WONDER?????HMMMMMM....
The video shows a man in a pink shirt who was talking to Tulfo. The man was beside a woman in pink tops and white shorts, attire that is similar to what Barretto was wearing during the May 6 incident at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City.
The man in pink shirt was seen on the video hitting Tulfo in the head with his left hand.
The scene reportedly took place before the melee.

THE ULTIMATE RIHANNA
A Spectacular number from Rihanna..was a wonderful on the low notes and was obviously enjoying herself immensely, smiling all the while.
Rihanna delivered more than a rock show!!!
This duet is a blast! I WAS LIKE 0_0 while watching this live awhile ago.
I stopped breathing for some seconds while listening the
ending song with mouth open.

It is not easy for us FILIPINOS to accept that Phillip Phillips won the contest. But it is a fair game considering that both of them, Phil and Jessica performance last night was a kind of a snooze-fest for me, it really got my attention. Two hours of performances, look-backs, reminders of eliminated contestants we barely got to know, and of course, the big reveal.
For me Jessica Sanchez certainly proven herself in spite the fact she had problem with her voice and control over the last few weeks but indeed survive the game.
The finale was a huge BANG!!! Star-studded event with John Fogerty, Fantasia Barrino, Chaka Khan, Reba and Neil Diamond among the guest performers who took the stage along with the two finalists and the previously eliminated contestants for various musical numbers. Rihanna performed solo, as did Jennifer Lopez both had fun with lasers. And the most ever idol for all Steven Tyler, he did pretty great when Aerosmith took the stage toward the end of the episode.
How can I forget the first proposal made in AI, Former contestants Ace Young and Diana DeGarmo became engaged on stage. Young, a season five finalist told host Ryan Seacrest that he and DeGarmo had just moved in together. Then Young got down on one knee and popped the question to her. DeGarmo, a runner-up in season three, tearfully accepted, her head bobbing up and down.
Going back to the finale.
A record-breaking 132.3 million votes were cast following last night’s American Idol
performance show – the highest number of votes in the show’s history and a new World
Record!
Phillip Phillips is the WINNER. Phillips seems to have swayed the majority of voters in his direction after the amazing performance of his original song “Home.” And Jessica Sanchez is the runner-up.
Both had good runs, with Jessica facing near elimination earlier on in the season and Phillip
reportedly struggling with some medical issues. It's a happy night for both of them and the
end to a solid season.
JESSICA SANCHEZ you are the winner too in our hearts! Thank you for bringing great pride to Filipinos!
